Streamlining access to education with a single sign-on for millions.

For over twelve months I contributed to one of the biggest and hairiest projects I've worked on: streamlining access to educational resources with a single sign-on for Indonesia — Akun Belajar.id — an initiative of the Ministry of Education under Nadiem Makarim.
SSO lets users reach many applications with one set of credentials. In education that means a dramatically better experience for students and teachers, stronger security from centralizing credentials, and far less time lost to password resets.
Building it in Indonesia meant wrestling with technological infrastructure, user adoption across a vast archipelago, data privacy, integration with existing systems, and cost — all at the scale of a 400-person program.
As product designer I shaped the product's design, strategy and research — building intuitive interfaces, identifying opportunities for growth, and making sure we had the data to inform every decision before handing the product back to its owners at a good-enough state.
The outcome was an irreversible step for Indonesian education: more connectivity, a more empowered learning community, and new opportunities for every stakeholder.
