This article is going to give you 3 questions that will help you determine how impactful a task is, with the aim for you to be able to better prioritize. What I mean by prioritizing is really to arrange items or activities in order of importance relative to each other.
To give you context — I am currently part of The Indonesian Ministry of Education, Research & Technology's initiatives in building The Biggest Single Education Account in The World — that works with Google. As of today (13 July 2022) we are serving over 50+ Million teachers and students.
This question came up from a person that I look up to at the organizations; Kautsar Anggakara. He's leading the design team within GovTech Edu, Indonesia.
Hopefully with this article, you'd be able to help yourselves, your organization, and teams to move forward in a better mindset achieving your best productive state without getting overwhelmed.
Now these are the questions;
What happens if we don't do this now? This question might sound simple, but in an unhealthy organization, this could be challenging to ask. The goal of asking this question is to set expectations and boundaries for whoever is responsible and accountable for this particular task. If it is do or die, then you'll straight away get the answer that this task is important.
Is there any other capable person that has the time for this? Understanding that if there is another person who's more capable of doing this, it will set you up to whether you need to take the accountability for this task, or to sit back and reflect.
Why me? What's the quality in me that is required to complete and bring the best result for this task? As a business owner, the skill to sell is non-negotiable. Knowing that you need to do this because you're the best in the particular field should be a "YES" to a task you need to take on. However, you also need to know that while you're good at some things, you might not be good at others. If you're not good with accounting, then hire the right person for it.
Do you think these 3 questions help you reframe how you look at your business?
