An article about how to make sure you thrive at work and still be able to live a happy life.

It's 2022 and the world of employment has evolved into something greater than just status from your work title and the profit you make from your campaign this week. (Unless of course you're in the industry where the only success metrics are profit and fame.)

I've come to realise that the amount of people in my circle that is guilty of letting a toxic work culture — involved and trapped in it, or even actively promoting it — is fascinating.

I do realise how lucky I am to be writing this, knowing that I live the life I want, working in such a supportive environment, not just professionally but mentally too, have a design agency that has unlimited potential for growth, and being a co-founder of a digital marketing firm that's all about a healthy working environment.

After digesting and observing my circle, here are 3 things that I would do if I were them:

1. Reflect on situations, metrics of my own success and happiness, and realign.

Self reflection and realignment is one of the most important parts of my weekly routine. It helps us understand our goals better, and see our progress. Without it, a potential habit of "swiping things under the rug" is a cancer for a work culture. It will slowly eat your motivations, and create a sense of resentment.

2. Identify and understand what a healthy work culture is; and what is healthy for you.

There's no one size fits all in pursuing life's most consuming activity; work. Understanding what fits your healthy portion, and what's not, is step one. However, be honest. Tolerating a toxic culture because of comfort means you are contributing to its growth.

3. Educate yourself about the impact of a toxic workplace for you.

As a person that is taking it day in day out, you might not see it. But step back and check yourself. How are you feeling? What are the things that you've been wanting to do for a while but kept pushing back these days? What makes you feel exhausted at work? Is it purely work? Or is it external factors happening within work?

Lastly, when was the last time you said something to someone at work without having to worry that it will become a conflict?

Hope that helps!
